Note: as much as one would expect this to include affiliate links in this article, we would prefer to keep this clean of commissions, we just want to provide you with quality content.

Tired of scrolling your streaming service looking for a new release that slipped through the cracks?

Maybe you missed something and were skimming too fast last time.

26 minutes go by and you’re back at the beginning wondering how time just fell through your fingers.

We get it, you’ve watched Game of Thrones from the beginning, twice and are fully caught up with every true crime series available.

But what next?

Is there such a thing as guilt free binging of movies or tv shows? Surely.

Anything that has to do with marketing or being an online entrepreneur, treat it as a write-off expense.

You know that by watching it you can take at least one nugget away and be able to apply it to your daily work, or overall business.

Jackpot!

That being said, we’re going to thread in some fun one to balance it out too.

Who said you couldn’t learn something from Erlich Bachman in the earlier seasons of Silicon Valley, in between him belittling Jian-Yang?

Let’s get started.

THE GREAT HACK

If you haven’t already, this is the easiest one to recommend for affiliates.

If you didn’t hear about this popular Netflix Original, it’s centered around Cambridge Analytica and the conspiracy that they had access to up to 5,000 data points of every American voter by scraping Facebook profiles.

This allowed them to exploit the data and run hyper-targeted ads during the 2016 US presidential election.

SILICON VALLEY (6 SEASONS)

Here’s where we thread in some fun, less serious screen time.

Silicon Valley’s a peak through the looking glass into a comedic take on Silicon Valley, and the rise and fall of it’s startup scene.

You’ll find familiar companies under pseudo names, stereotypical characters we’ve all heard stories about from Silicon Valley, all based around a small startup dancing the line of a unicorn, with the peaks and valleys that come with it.

Expect laughter and sometimes tears of.

THE SOCIAL NETWORK

The birth of one of our most valuable tools as marketers, Facebook.

A biographical drama based on Mark Zuckerberg’s early struggles to position Facebook as the single most powerful company in the world.

Unless you kept up with the story over the years, there’s plenty of interesting pieces that allude to the dirty hand Zuck can play to get what he wants.

Hell even Sean Parker, Napster’s founder, played by Justin Timberlake, is entertaining enough to watch.

With a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, multiple Oscars, Golden Globes and BAFTAS – this is a must watch for every online marketer.

STEVE JOBS

Another biographical drama, this time based on the beloved and sometimes hated Steve Jobs

At the core of the movie, you witness the brilliant and adamant mind of someone who is drawing outside of the lines of his peers to steer the digital revolution forward in a bold new direction.

As any good biopic, you get the good, the bad and the ugly of one of the greatest minds in tech of the 21st century.

And with thanks to Steve Jobs, we’re blessed with a platform that enables endless opportunities of advertising through smartphones of all shapes and sizes.

WOLF OF WALL STREET

Safe to say you’ve probably watched this at least once.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s take on the rise and fall of Jordan Belfort and his Stratton brokerage firm is start to finish a flick that keeps you guessing.

Could this be real? Did this actually happen? The sex, drugs and buy low, sell high lifestyle grips you from the start.

But is this more than just a fun watch? You bet.

If you put your marketing lens on you’ll appreciate the lessons weaved throughout.

Unquestionably an extremely calculated shark, but offers a class on selling:

  • How to know your ideal customer
  • The art of persuasive marketing
  • How to solve a problem & fill a need
  • and of course… Never lose sight.

With endless Oscar nominees, even a few golden globe wins, Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie, paired with Martin Scorsese at the helm is the perfect combo for an excellent film.

BOILER ROOM

If you haven’t watched Boiler Room but attended an Affiliate World Conference, there’s a good chance you’ve basically lived it.

The film is based off of Gen Xers chasing the Wall Street dream, made possible through selling dubious penny stocks.

What will seem familiar is the lavish lifestyles the “brokers” live, where owning lamborghinis is like having a prius, and the over-the-top parties with questionable activities that you’ve either avoided at industry events or jumped in with both feet.

You’ll watch and notice similarities throughout, and reflect back on the “Wild West” days of affiliate marketing. Minus the fraud.

FYRE: THE GREATEST PARTY THAT NEVER HAPPENED

The biggest cautionary tale of our time as marketers.

If there was a dial to 10 of how hard you go push with influencer marketing, Billy McFarland (founder), cranked it well past it.

Partnering with Ja Rule to throw a luxury music festival, FYRE is in all purity the lifelong message of “don’t sell something you can’t deliver.”

That being said, the marketing they accomplish can easily inspire any of us to take the leap on those dream projects we’ve been putting off.

An influencer marketing masterpiece, will find the true power of IG models and how you can influence the masses to purchase – even without a product to show.
